Athyrium metallicum (Japanese Painted Fern)

The Japanese Painted Fern (Athyrium nipponicum metallicum - also know as athyrium nipponicum var. pictum) produces beautiful arching tricolour maroon, medium green and silvery grey fronds throughout the growing season. The colours develop best in partial shade.
It is easy to grow, and prefers moist, organic soil. The height is 45-60cm. It forms a clump and spreads slowly by creeping rhizomes.
