Blechnum spicant (Hard Fern)

The Hard Fern (Blechnum spicant) gets its name because the glossy evergreen leaves are tough. It is drought tolerant and will grow in sun or shade.
The leaves are ladder shaped, and the older leaves spread out flat around the more upright new leaves. This neat British native plant is a good foil for some of the more delicate, softer green deciduous ferns.
