Centaurea nigra is the common knapweed or hard head which grows in wild flower meadows. The attractive dark pink flowers first appear in June on stems about 2 feet tall. They are attractive to butterflies and are long lasting.
This plant will grow in any reasonable well drained garden soil and prefers a sunny situation.
