Digitalis purpurea is the wild foxglove. This strain produces mostly the classic pink trumpet flowers illustrated in the picture, with some plants having pale pink to cream flowers spotted with purple.
The plant is a generally a biennial and it usually freely self-seeds to produce a succession of plants. It will grow in sun or partial shade and prefers organic well drained soil, so is particularly at home on the edges of woods and shrubby areas. The height of the flower stems is generally 1.5 to 2 metres.
Detailed growing instructions are supplied with the Digitalis purpurea (Foxglove) plants, and can be viewed here.
