The Golden Scaled Male Fern (Dryopteris affinis) forms an upright clump of ferny fronds approximately 120 cm tall. It is an imposing plant for the shady border, or the woodland or damp garden or for a container. The stems of the leaves are covered with ginger brown scales, especially when they first come up each spring, hence the name 'scaly'.

This fern will grow in any garden soil, in wet or dry conditions, or in a container. It will often reproduce by spores.

Detailed growing instructions are supplied with the Dryopteris affinis (Golden Scaled Male Fern) plants, and can be viewed here.
