Eupatorium purpureum

Eupatorium purpureum is a spectacular plant for the back of a border or wild garden. It reaches 3.5 metres tall in its native North America. In our garden it is more like 2 metres in dry shade, but would be larger in sun and with more moisture. The leaves smell of vanilla when crushed. The huge frosty pink flower heads are out in summer.
Eupatorium purpureum plants will grow in any garden soil in sun or shade. They can tolerate dry semi-shade conditions, and are also very happy in boggy ground in full sun. The clump expands each year and it does self seed.
