Helleborus foetidus is a superb plant for the border or the woodland garden. The beautiful lime green flowers make a wonderful show in January to April, especially as they bloom when most other plants are dormant. Then the attractive evergreen palm-like foliage provides year round interest.
There is a mild musty smell when the leaves are brushed or cut, which has given rise to the name foetidus. The height is around 60 cm. This plant will flourish in dry shade, or in a sunny position. In the wild it grows on the edge of woodlands in Britain and Europe. It can stand drought, deep shade and hot sun.
Detailed growing instructions are supplied with the Helleborus foetidus (Stinking Hellebore) plants, and can be viewed here.
