Phormium 'Purpureum' (New Zealand Flax)

Phormium tenax 'Purpureum' (Purple Leaved New Zealand Flax) can be a striking element in a hot coloured planting scheme. The clump of upright sword-like leaves are purplish bronze coloured. In summer, there is a flower shoot with tubular red flowers on mature plants. The eventual height is up to 3 metres.
This plant likes a sheltered sunny site with moist well drained soil.
