Pulmonaria saccharata (Lungwort)

Pulmonaria saccharata provides a superb display in shade all the year round. In February to April the plant is covered in intense blue and red flowers. Throughout the rest of the year, the evergreen white spotted on green leaves form a slowly spreading carpet of weed smothering ground cover around 30 cm high.
Pulmonarias, which are also commonly known as lungwort or Jerusalem cowslip, will grow in sun or shade and in any reasonable garden soil. They are happiest in humus rich soil in partial shade.
