Pulmonaria flowers are out in March to May. Colours range through white, pink, red and blue. Many varieties have flowers which change colour from pink to blue as they open. The leaves are often green spotted with white, although there are some all green, and some nearly all silvery leaved varieties.

Pulmonaria plants are about 8 to 12 inches tall. They spread moderately quickly via runners, and also by self seeding. Many pulmonarias are close to evergreen, although the leaves do partly die down in droughts and late summer to autumn. Dead heading will produce fresh new foliage, and stop self seeding.

Pulmonaria plants will grow in any well drained garden soil, in sun or partial shade. They prefer humus rich moist well drained soil in partial shade.
