Sedum plants produce a colourful display in late summer and autumn. The flowers are very attractive to butterflies and bees. The common name is Ice Plant.
Sedum flowers are large flat flower heads containing many very small flowers. The flower colours of ‘border’ sedums (as opposed to the smaller alpine sedums) are usually red or pink, with some white and cream flowered varieties. The flowering period is July to October.
Sedum plants have thick fleshy roots and stems and succulent glaucous or purplish leaves. The clumps expand with time.
Sedums prefer dry and sunny conditions. They are not too fussy about soil type, so long as it is well drained, and are drought resistant.
Sedum `Ruby Glow` (Ice Plant) Sedum ?Ruby Glow? is a fine plant for the front of the border, where its deep purple to glaucous fleshy foliage and intense deep red flowers contract wonderfully with just about any other plant. The leaves form a prostrate mat approximately 15 cm tall and the flower are out in late summer.
