Verbena bonariensis

Verbena bonariensis send up exotic purple mounds of flowers, which are irresistible to butterflies, from early summer to the autumn. The branching wiry almost leafless stems can reach 1.5 to 2 metres. The flowers are good for cutting.
This plant requires good drainage and sun. It is drought resistant. It will generally self seed. Although it is not a long lived perennial, its life can be extended by cutting back the stems in late summer.
